Wikigyptian – The Encyclopedia of Ancient Egypt

The project

Wikigyptian is a fictional project created as part of my Coursera Google UX Design certification.
However, it was designed and developed as if it were a real project, with version 2.0 currently being built on Lovable and planned for future deployment.

Wikigyptian is a website offering verified information about Ancient Egypt and its history. Unlike other platforms, Wikigyptian will only provide content validated and endorsed by Egyptologists, the Cairo Museum, and other trusted sources that guarantee authenticity and accuracy.

As someone passionate about Ancient Egypt since childhood, this case study allowed me to reconnect with that passion. I revisited my own books and encyclopedias to design this prototype of a site that could one day become a true reference in the field, should I decide to fully develop it.

The goal is to make reliable knowledge accessible—whether for children learning history at school or for adults traveling to Egypt—by offering official, trustworthy information about a civilization that achieved extraordinary architectural and cultural feats for its time.

Problem

Today, countless websites provide contradictory information about Ancient Egypt, making it difficult for users—whether students, enthusiasts, or travelers—to find reliable and verified sources. The challenge was to design a trustworthy reference site validated by Egyptologists and official institutions.

Research

  • Users struggle with contradictory sources and wasted time.
  • Personas: students & history enthusiasts needing trustful content.
  • Prototype testing confirmed need for clarity and simplicity.
  • Les utilisateurs peinent à faire face aux sources contradictoires et perdent du temps.
  • Personas : étudiants et passionnés d’histoire en quête de contenus fiables.
  • Les tests de prototypes ont confirmé le besoin de clarté et de simplicité.

Solution

  • Designed Wikigyptian, a site with verified Egyptology content.
  • Built wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes.
  • Ensured accessibility (RGAA) for readability and inclusiveness.

Outcome

  • Delivered a functional prototype providing a reliable knowledge hub on Ancient Egypt.
  • Improved usability with simplified navigation, clear summaries, and structured categories.
  • Defined next steps for a potential V2: gamified content, advanced e-commerce, and mobile expansion.
